Description:  Vitamin D-dependent calcium-binding protein. Functions as a cytosolic buffer for Ca2+ ions in duodenal enterocytes and facilitates transepithelial active transport of Ca2+ ions. Also present in pig uterus and placenta. Binds two equivalents of Ca2+

Biological roles: fetal calcium uptake; uterine contractions; calcification of bone and teeth; calcium transport and uptake in mammalian intestine.
